Celebrating a wonderful fibre that helped grow a town…
Woolville, 8-9 March 2025
A two-day festival of wool is being held in Woodville, New Zealand as part of the town’s year-long celebration of its 150th anniversary. The weekend of 8 & 9 March 2025 will see the town’s Anglican Church and its grounds hosting exhibitions and stalls celebrating a remarkable fibre, which has an ancient past and an exciting future.
A town’s 150th anniversary
Woodville is located in the Tararua district at the feet of the Tararua and Ruahine ranges. It sits at the junction of major roads connecting the Manawatu, Wairarapa and Hawke’s Bay regions. In 2025 the town will be celebrating 150 years since the sale of the first town lots, marking the start of this resilient little community.
Town committee, Positively Woodville, is helping coordinate groups and organisations to host events of all kinds over 2025. More information about the anniversary celebrations will be published as it becomes available.
A weekend of wool
The wider Woodville district has a long history of sheep farming, as one of the important planks of the local economy and town life. To honour this contribution to the town, to celebrate an amazing fibre that has so many uses and benefits, and to help promote the amazing array of products, art and crafts being made from wool today, a wool weekend - Woolville - is being held on 8 & 9 March 2025.
The Woodville Anglican Church is hosting the two-day event. On Saturday 8 March the main church building will be open for exhibitions, with a marquee to be erected in the grounds for stalls. Food trucks and caravans will be on site to help keep everyone well fed. On Sunday 9 March a special woolly service will be held.
